Ep 55: Wind

Tsuande says that Kakashi is ready to be discharge. Naruto has been staying in his room waiting for his training. Kakashi says "I thought I'd have a few days to be lazy...err, recover at my own house." Saukra wakes up Naruto and he accidentally calls her ugly whore.

Kakashi starts Naruto's training. Naruto smiles and laughs happily because it's been a long time since Kakashi trained him. Kakashi says this is his only chance to laugh since they're really short on time. The aim is to create his own ninjutsu surpassing the rasengan. Chakra nature and shape manipulation are essential to this process.

Shape manipulation: Tells Naruto to start a rasengan then stops him. Naruto has mastered chakra shape manuipulation with rasengan where he rotates raw chakra wildly at extreme speeds and compresses the energy. Nature manipulation: Kakashi starts chidori which uses both shape and nature manipulation at the same time. Kakashi concentrates chakra in his right hand then changes its nature to electric current. Then changes its shape to that of a power surge which determines the power and range.

They need to deternine Naruto's affinity. Five basic types of chakra elements: fire, wind, water, earth, and lightning form the foundation of all ninjutsu. Most people lean toward one of the elements. Uchiha are skilled in fire and Chidori is lightning so Sasuke got fire and lightning. Kakashi takes out slips of special paper which react to even the slightest amount of chakra made from special trees fed and nutured with chakra.

Naruto has wind affinity. Wind can slice anything to bits and is perfectly suited for battle. Yamato joins them to help with training. Naruto asks what kind of nature manipulation is his wood element. Kakashi asks Yamato to demonstrate. Yamato performs Doton, Doryuu Jouheki:Earth Element, Earth Rampart and a huge wall of earth rises up. Then he performs Suiton, Takitsubo no Jutsu: water element, waterfall basin technque and a waterfall gushes down. Most jounin can use at least two types. Yamato can only use earth and water. Wood is a combination of earth and water natures at the same time to create a new element. Yamato demonstrates by channeling earth chakra in his right hand and water in his left. He claps his hands together then trees grow from the wall of earth. Using two elemental natures at the same time to create a new nature is called a Bloodline Limit. Kakshi talks about Haku who had Ice element combining water and wind. Bloodline limits are genetic. Only his clan could perform that technique. Naruto asks about Shika's Shadow Mimic and Chouji's Multi-Size technique and medical ninjutsu and genjutsu. Kakashi just says explaining all that will take more time and you won't get it even if I do. Yamato suggests saving explanation on "light and dark manipulations" for later.

Kakashi says they'll use Naruto's mass shadow clones to cut down on training time. He explains that shadow clones are physical clones, a complete copy of the user and has special side effects. When the technique is released, any experience gained by the clones is transfered to the original. Naruto doesn't get it.

Kakashi and Naruto both make one shadow clone. The clones walk into the woods together where the originals can't see them. Kakashi clones says to play rock paper scissors. Naruto insists the winner be treated to Ichiraku ramen. Naruto wins paper to fist. The clones release the technique. The originals know what happened. Naruto now understands the technique. Kage bunshin was originally used for recon missions in dangerous areas, infiltrating enemy bases, and information gathering.

Kakashi wonders how Jiraiya taught Naruto rasengan. Yamato agrees. Kakashi explains if Naruto and one clone go through the exact same training, then you end up getting twice the benefit and accomplish the same amount of training in half the time. If there are three then one third the time. A thousand in 1000th the time, 20 years of training in a week. Naruto has to have as many clones as possible working at all times during nature manipulation training.

Kakashi can't train like that because he doesn't have the stamin or chakra and can't maintain it for long. Naruto has four times as much chakra as Kakashi and if he doesn't suppress the Kyuubi's chakra, then he has about 100 times as much. Since Naruto will be using a lot of chakra, there's a chance he might awaken Kyuubi and that's why Yamato is there to control the Kyuubi's chakra.

First step: strength control over the chakra element. Kakashi tells Naruto to make a shadow clone for each leaf on a tree. Naruto makes over a thousand clones and each clone tries to cut the leaf between his palms. He manages to knick one. Kakashi thinks training might go faster than he expected.

Thoughts:
Didn't Kakashi use ice techniques in the first Naruto movie?

Yamato is there to control the Kyuubi's chakra, but can't Kakashi just use a seal like last time?.

Other possible combinations? Does earth and fire make metal or lava? What can fire-water and fire-are make?

In Avatar, wind is not meant as a great attack technique but is more defensive.
