Ep 207: Abilities That Should Have Been Sealed

Naruto takes off his jacket to beat out the fire on Kiba. Shino notes that they and Akamaru are subject to genjutu since they have a cerebrum. He sends his destruction bugs, which are not affected, through the fire.

Yakumo asks Kurenai for the truth but Kurenai insists she sealed her powers away at her own discretion and the Third had nothing to do with it. Yakumo insists she heard them plotting the destruction of her clan and her parents shouldn’t have died in the fire so easily. Destruction bugs swarm around her. Naruto makes a bunch of clones, gets them to beat him up and throw him through the fire. He lands in the room with Kurenai and Yakumo. Naruto tells Yakumo the truth.

Meanwhile Kiba tells Gai that Naruto and Kurenai are trapped in the genjutsu world. Unkai tells them Kurenai treated Yakumo the best. When she decided to tell Yakumo to give up on being a shinobi, Yakumo became very depressed and her father Murakumo was worried for her. Then the fire happened. The main branch mansion burned and Yakumo was standing outside in front of the house. In the fire was a horrible beast.

Yakumo starts to freak out as she remembers something. Arms grab Naruto from out of nowhere. A painting reveals the fire. She remembers her parents and trying to live up to their expectations. They try to comfort her when she couldn’t be a shinobi but then smoke comes from her mouth and a monster appears. It shoots out fire and burns her parents. Yakumo remembers the other within her killed her parents. She tries to stab herself with a palette knife but a hand reaches out from a painting of herself and stops her.

Unkai says brainwave scans indicated the monster was created by her unconscious mind and he appealed to the Third to take her life before she destroyed the clan and Konoha, but the Third refused saying she must learn to control her power or have it sealed away. The sealer would have to live with the burden of Yakumo’s hate.

Kiba and Sakura go back to the mansion to help Naruto.

Hinata senses something while Shino’s bugs act strangely from a powerful chakra.

The monster emerges from the painting. Kurenai said she had doubts about Yakumo’s genjutsu powers. She had looked at her subconscious and found the monster which the Third wanted to destroy. Kurenai resolves to destroy it even if she dies. Naruto breaks free and attacks the monster but gets blown back and his kage bunshin doesn’t work. Kurenai tells Yakumo she is the only one who can defeat it. If she can contain her power she can achieve her dreams. Yakumo grabs the palette knife and drives it into the head of the monster before it can kill Naruto. The monster disappears. Yakumo performs seals so Kurenai is back to normal and the room returns to normal.

The others rush in. Kurenai goes back to being Team 8’s sensei. Naruto thinks of his team and Sasuke.
