Ep 213: The Lost Memories

Fire and screams rip through the air as villagers are ruthlessly cut down. A man running away is injured by a kunai. His daughter begs for his life but he is killed and his necklace taken away. The killer is about to kill the girl but he’s killed by a blonde boy. The girl cries over her father's body. The boy picks up the necklace and gives it to the girl. The ground crumbles under them. He saves her but he falls into the river below.

Naruto tries to pluck legendary fermented bamboo shoots on a steep cliff for his Ichiraku ramen. He falls and slides down cliff. He sees the blond boy hanging onto a rock and saves him. He takes him to the hospital where Sakura is making rounds as a nurse. Sakura says this is a Konoha hospital and they don't take outsiders. Naruto leaves him there and runs off to give the bamboo to the ramen guy. The old chef says it takes 3-4 weeks to ferment them.

Sakura finds him and forces him back to the hospital where a medic uses seals for Jigyaku no Jutsu: Time reversal technique to try to regain his memories through his subconscious, a form of reverse hypnotism, but he still can't remember.

The boy doesn't remember anything. Sakura shows Naruto a broken flute called an ocarina which was the only thing the boy had on him. Sakura asks Naruto to sign a release since he's responsible for him.

A lightning storm hits the hospital and the patients have to evacuate. The boy is trapped in the fire. He has flashes of memory of fire and screaming people. He drops to his knees asking for forgiveness. Outside, Sakura, Naruto, Tsuande and Shizune stand around as a woman says her baby is in the hospital. The blonde boy soothes the baby with his flute and a protective shell is emitted from the flute. They hear it from outside. The boy jumps out the window with the baby. Naruto creates clones as cushion.

The next day, Tsunade, Shizune, Sakura, and Naruto discuss allowing him to stay in Konoha. Tsunade agrees, since he saved the baby, but Naruto will be responsible for him. At Ichiraku, Naruto is with his new friend. He calls him Menma (fermented bamboo shoots) since that's what he was looking for when he found him. Menma stays in Naruto's place which is a complete mess. Next morning, the place is clean thanks to Menma who couldn't sleep. He even did the laundry and hung Naruto’s boxers out to dry.

Naruto thinks of ways to regain his memory. He takes Menma to "Sweet Chestnuts" and shows him various deserts., but Menma still can't remember. Naruto has to wash the Hokage monument. Menma offers to help but first helps an old lady carry bags and pull weeds. Then he helps other elderly people in the area. The villagers deliver gifts for Naruto and Menma to Tsunade's office.

As Naruto and Menma clean the Hokage monument, blood suddenly drips on Naruto and a shinobi falls. Naruto catches him then a volley of kunai rains down, followed by kunai with explosive tags and more kunai, and then a kunai on a rope. Menma plays his flute and Naruto feels his chakra increase in strength. Naruto pursues the enemy and stabs him in back, but it’s just a replacement log. The enemy gets away.

Review: Best part was looking at deserts.
