Ep 138: A Pure Betrayal, Fleeting Wishes

Jiraiya appears on top of a huge frog. The frog lashes out its tongue and Naruto grabs hold. From the pit Kagerou throws kunais and hits Naruto. But the one holding onto the tongue was only a clone. More Naruto clones swing from the tongue to attack Kagerou. While another two start rasengan. Naruto hits Kagerou in the abdomen with rasengan and sends him crashing against the rocks. Shouichi and Jiroubou pick up Kagerou and retreat.

The temple is only partly sucked under and Sakura and Sasame are fine. Sakura helps Sasame rest by a tree and warns Jiraiya to stay away from her. He claims he's only interested in adult women. Sakura introduces Sasame to Jiraiya explaining she's a ninja of Rice Field Country, of the Fuuma clan looking for her cousin who was taken by Orochimaru. Jiraiya mentions he met a gang of bandits from the Fuuma. Sasame says the bandits left the clan and are traitors. She guides them toward Hidden Sound Village. Orochimaru's hideout lies beyond the mountains. Naruto is ready to continue but Jiraiya calls for a break because he's hungry. He takes out a full course dinner from his backpack made by the prettiest girl in town. Sasame offers to make tea, but she puts something in it.

The team falls asleep after drinking the tea. Sasame runs off to fire a flare. The three shinobis from before see the flare. Kagerou is still injured so the other two run off.

Sasame has a flashback where she falls into a rope trap and gets strung up in a tree. The same three shinobis appear and cut her down. She asks them about her cousin Arashi. They tell her he is training by Orochimaru's side and suggest that she work for Orochimaru like them so that she can see him.

Back to present, Kamikiri and Jigumo arrive and tell Sasme to finish off the Konoha shinobis before she can see her cousin. She refuses and Kamikiri knocks her back toward the rocks but Naruto saves her. Kamikiri is surpised that the paralyzing potion didn't work but Naruto said it was a setup from the beginning. Kamikiri throws kunais at the sleeping forms but they're just logs! Sakura takes care of Sasame while Naruto confronts the shinobis.

Flashback: Sasame agrees to put the Naruto gang to sleep to them bring to Orochimaru's for interrogation so that her request would be considered.

Kamikiri attacks Naruto with his pinchers. Naruto avoids his attack and uses kage bunshin. His clones hit Kamikiri with the Naruto Rendan (kicks from below and above). Jigumo is about to join the fray but Jiraiya appears and blows out green noxious fumes from his mouth then hits him with rasengan. The two Fuuma shinobis get knocked down but then Kagerou arrives. Jiraiya observes that Kagerou is a doton (earth) user but says there's no use in using that jutsu here in this rock area. Kagerous thinks how "an ant lion comes from the ground and spreads out its wings from its metamorphosis stage. That is the only time it shows its radiance and that is when I die too." Kagerou appears to transform and his exterior turns into a hard casing, which cracks open to reveal a young girl with a pair of beautiful wings. She's using a once in a lifetime technique Kagerou ninpou, uta-kata (Kagerou's technique, ephemeral vengeance). A blast of light (chakra) hits Naruto and Jiraiya. But when the smoke clears, a cocoon like object protected the two. Jiraiya used Gamaguchi shibari no jutsu (bound frog mouth technique) to summon the stomach of a giant frog. Kagerou disappears with her friends. Naruto rants about how Orochimaru uses people.

Meanwhile Kagerou appears with her comrades at Orochimaru's abode. Her comrades bring her to Orochimaru and beg him to save her. But Orochimaru says they caused more trouble for him. The two stupidly attack Orochimaru and are immediately cut down.
