Flashback: Itachi carries Sasuke home from practice since Sasuke hurt his ankle. On the way they pass a building with the Uchiha fan crest where there father works, the Konoha Military Police Headquarters. Sasuke asks why their family crest is there. Itachi explains the Uchiha ancestors were the ones who established the police force to enforce and protect the village’s public order. The Uchiha crest is also a symbol of the clan’s pride. The clan is now smaller but most work as the police to maintain public order. The only shinobis who can enforce the laws are superior ones. Sasuke asks if he's going to join and Itachi says maybe. Sasuke says when he grows up he’s going to join the police force. Sasuke’s excited that his father will come to his entrance ceremony tomorrow - his first step towards his dream. Their father is waiting for them at home and says they’re late. Itachi has been admitted into the Anbu only half a year after becoming a chuunin. Their father plans on going on the mission with him tomorrow. If Itachi succeeds, his enlistment into ANBU will be official. Itachi and Sasuke both try to tell him about tomorrow being Sasuke’s entrance to the academy but their father cuts them off and continues on about how important it is to the clan that Itachi succeeds in this mission. Itachi then says he’s not going on the mission so he can attend Sauke’s entrance ceremony since it’s required that a relative attend. Father finally agrees to go.

Next day after the ceremony a teacher praises the Uchiha siblings and goes on about Itachi being a genius. Father tells Sasuke to "become a great shinobi like your brother." In the classroom a couple of kids notice Sasuke’s a Uchiha and think he’s probably awesome. Choji asks Shikamaru if he wants some chips.

Later, Sasuke hears his father talking to Itachi who has been accepted into ANBU. He says "as expected of my child ANBu has accepted you I knew in my heart I could count on you.

Sasuke practices kunai throwing until he collapses. His mom tells him to rest on his day of from the Academy. Sasuke says his brother graduated in only one year. But his mom says times have changed, and his brother is special.

After the first term, Sasuke gets his report card with top marks in all areas, he shows it to his dad who just says "keep this up and become successful just like your brother." Sasuke thinks he wanted him to say "as expected of my child."

It’s the middle of the night Sasuke awakes to loud voices argiung about a meeting for tomorrow but Itachi says he has a secret mission. Itachi notices Sasuke at the door. Sasuke’s told to go back to sleep by his dad. Itachi glares at his father. The next morning Sasuke and Itachi sit together for a talk. Itachi says "shinobis are hated by others especially when they’re skilled, power causes you to become isolated and arrogant. I’m the barrier you must overcome so you and I will continue to exist together..." Their talk is interrupted by three Uchiha members. Two Uchiha were absent from last night's meeting. Itachi didn’t go. He apologizes and asks them to leave but they also want to ask him about the suicidal drowning in the Nakano river last night of Uchiha Shisui who also did not attend the meeting. He was like an older brother to Itachi. Itachi says he hasn’t seen him recently. The police force is investigating his death. They show him Shisui’s suicide note. The handwriting was identified as his, but the sharingan can copy any handwriting. Shisui was one of the most skilled Uchiha called "Shisui of the Mirage."

The Uchiha say that Shisui was the kind of man who would take on any mission for the clan and would not kill himself. They leave the note with Itachi to take to the Anbu and request that they also investigate. Before leaving, the long hair one warns that if Itachi tries to hide anything they’ll know. Itachi gets really mad and turns on his sharingan and tells them to be more direct. The Spikey hair guy says if he tries to betray the clan he won’t get off easy and that Shisui was sent to watch over Itachi just half a year after joining Anbu his actions and words became strange. Itachi attacks and easily beats up all three of them. Itachi says that focusing on the group/clan restrains them and their capabilities. His father shows up and asks why he didn’t come to the meeting. Itachi responds "To meet the height" then throws a kunai at the Uchiha symbol on the wall. Itachi says "my capacity, I’ve lost all hope for this pathetic clan. There is no room for change if rules and regulations, expectations and wishes prevent it from happening. They threaten to arrest him but Sasuke calls out. Itachi has a change of heart and kneels before them and says he didn’t kill Shisui. His father tries to excuse him, saying he’s been worked to death by Anbu and is tired. He will take the responsibility of watching over Itachi. As the 3 Uchiha leave, Itachi looks up and his sharingan dots merge to form a pinwheel shape.

Naruto picks up his back pouch and Sasuke activates his sharingan.

Shisui's suicide note: I’m Sick of Missions. At this rate, Uchiha will have no future. And neither will I. This road I will walk down it no longer.

The Anbu are directly under the Hokage and the police force can’t arrest someone without a warrant.

Thoughts:

Sasuke's report card: he's # I of 30 kids in his class and #1 of 90 in the school. But is does 90 mean 3 classes at his grade level?

Itachi became chuunin at 10, but according to this episode he joined Anbu only 6 months after being a chuunin. He was supposed to be a Anbu captain at 13. He looks at least 13 in this episode.

If there are no Uchiha around now, who’s the police and do they still use the same crest?
