Ep 103: Naruto Sunk!? The Big Ocean with a Swirling Plot

Summary:

Aoi says he'll follow Fukusuke and then gives orders to three guys to follow Idate. Naruto's team chases after Idate. Boss Jirocho's men comment on how Idate ran away, but Jirocho has confidence in him. Gokaroh, an official of some sort, threatens Jirocho that if he loses, the Wasabi family will be disbanded.

Idate flashback to when he met Jirocho - Idate, a few years ago, hungry, tries to rob Jirocho with a kunai but is easily disarmed. Jirochi gives him an apple and a pocket knife and takes him in.

The three guys talking to Aoi before are revealed to be the rain genin from the second chuunin exam!

Naruto catches up to Idate. Sasuke and Sakura notice the path is an illusion. Idate also notices and uses Kai to dispel the illusion and runs ahead, but it's an illusion within an illusion and he runs off a cliff. Naruto grabs him in time, but he loses his weapons in his back hip pack. Sakura and Sasuke pull them up. Idate explains he's headed north because at this time of year a strong seasonal wind blows. The port to the north has an ocean current that heads straight for Nagi Island. Meanwhile Aoi and Fukusuke are having problems with the wind and head further south. The team and Idate arrive at the ocean. Across is the halfway point. Idate says he should get there in an hour. An old man comes out from his hut and gives them his fastest ship.

On the boat, Sakura tells Naruto she thinks Idate has had ninja training. Naruto mentions he was in the chuunin exam finals. Idate is surprised. Naruto claims that if it weren't for the interference, he would have won the tournament and become a chuunin. Idate remarks he must have had easy examiners and that the level of the chuunin exam must have dropped. Sasuke and Sakura recall that the first examiner's name was also Morino. Idate asks if his brother is still alive. Naruto mentions the weird tenth question. Suddenly an arrow hits the deck.

The rain genin with both eyes covered performs a summons and the lead rain genin appears. The rain genin with one eye covered shoots lots of arrows from his crossbow. Sasuke says he and Naruto will drive them away while Sakura is to take care of Idate. Arrows with ropes attach them to the other boat. Naruto tries to cut the ropes but he had lost his kunais. He asks Idate for his knife but Idate refuses. Sasuke thows Naruto a kunai (what about Sakura who is standing right next to him? Could she be even more useless?) The rain genin appear from the deck. Naruto says they're replications. Sasuke turns on his sharingan and sees that the real ones are hidden among the replications. Naruto gets hit but, it was just a clone Naruto. He used Kage bunshin and the Naruto clones beats up one of the real rain genin. Kagari returns to the other boat and does the seal for Suiton, Koku'un no jutsu (Water element, dark clouds). Meanwhile Naruto and Sasuke are fighting off water clones. It starts to rain black oil. Sasuke is about to use a fire jutsu but Sakura stops him. The rain genin with one eye shoots a fire arrow and he boat is ablaze.

Idate flashback: he's running, Ibiki is tied to a chair, there's a fire and Ibiki tells him to leave. Sasuke tells them to swim to the island but Idate starts to freak out and refuses to move. Sakura pulls out the mast and takes out all the water clones at once. A rain genin throws a kunai at Idate but Sakura jumps in front of him and takes the hit. Idate finally jumps into the water and swims to the island while the boat sinks. He reaches the shore but is met by Aoi!

Review:

Interesting strategy and info on water currents.This looks to be a rather long race. Nice to see the rain genin back for a rematch.

Thoughts:

It snows in the Country of Tea, which is south of Konoha, so it probably snows in Konoha as well.

Sakura's strength is probably from concentrating chakra to her arms.
