CH 1: Uzumaki Naruto (ep 1)
Iruka yells at Naruto while he's up by the mountains painting graffiti and hanging by a rope. In the anime, Naruto has already finished and is being chased around. He hides and when he comes out Iruka yells at him.

Anime shows the main characters (Sakura, Sasuke) transforming and others (Ino and Shikamaru) complaining, and others on line (Hinata, Kiba, Shino). Manga just have some random guys.
Sexy No Jutsu has much less cloud coverage in the manga!
Translation issue: Iruka says Naruto failed the final exams 2 times. He says something similar in the anime - Naruto failed the last 2 final exams. The implication here is more like 2 years in a row rather than having multiple exams to graduate.
Actually shows Naruto stealing the scroll. It's in the Hokage's house. The Hokage appears and Naruto uses Sexy No Jutsu on him and he nosebleeds and blanks out.
Naruto is shown in a room full of shelves of books and scrolls.

Then he goes to the woods and train and then Iruka is shown thinking about his talk with the Hokage.
Half a day passes before Hokage tells everyone what Naruto has done, it's daytime when they start to look for him. (Naruto has 12 hours to practice Kage Bunshin no Jutsu.) In the anime it is still night.
Iruka thinks to check the woods while Mizuki thinks to spread the word throughout the village before getting rid of Naruto, which is why Iruka finds him first.
The manga doesn't show Iruka throwing the large shuriken back at Mizuki.
Manga shows a band of shinobi who want to kill Naruto. One looks like Choji's father.

Iruka notes that Naruto divided into over 1000 clones.
CH 2: Konohamaru (ep 2)
Naruto does not do Sexy No Jutsu against the Hokage here in the animw.
No chakra lesson in manga.
Anime has scenes with Konohamaru going around town with Naruto making mischief. Manga just shows Konohamaru doing one really bad transformation and then cuts to the forest scene at the end. Guess they needed to fill out an episode.
Harem technique is much more revealing in the manga than the anime.
CH 3: Uchiha Sasuke (ep 3)
Pre-chapter Notes: Holster can hold about 18 shurikens estimated from the picture.
No Konohamaru or Ino encounter. No Ino at all.
A random genin, not Shikamaru, asks Naruto why he's at the meeting.
Sakura just bowls over Naruto to sit with Sasuke. No fights with other girls.
Sasuke is top among 27 graduates and Naruto was dead last. (Anime had 10 teams or 30 graduates, which is not consistent with what Kakashi says later on.)
No intro to the other teams or characters.
Manga does not have Naruto asking Sakura to eat lunch with him.
During the lunch break, Sasukes is eating his lunch outside the house on the ground, not inside on the second floor. Naruto attacks Sasuke but manga doesn't show Naruto's exact strategy.

Sasuke shows a bit more sympathy with Naruto after Sakura says how lucky Naruto is not to have parents: He says "That's why he misbehaves so much.the sadness of having a parent yell at you is nowhere near what he feels."
Iruka still has bandages around his neck. He looks fine in the anime.
CH 4: Hatake Kakashi (ep 4)
In anime, Kakashi says he has few hobbies, in manga has lots of hobbies.
Naruto's hobby of eating and comparing cup ramen is not in manga, but instead says his hobby is pranks, and then Kakashi rubs his head.
Sasuke talks after Naruto rather than Sakura.
Kakashi doesn't give a time to meet for survival training, in anime he says to meet at 5 am.
Kakashi gives them a handout of the survival training details with lots of kanji.
Naruto does image training and thinks of beating up a Kakashi doll.
Kakashi gives no excuse for his lateness, in anime he mentions a black cat.
CH 5: Carelessness is your Worst Enemy (ep 4)
Iruka's meeting with the Hokage is not mentioned here.
Kakahi laughs while reading his book and catching the shurikens.
CH 6: Not Sasuke-kun (ep 4-5)
Manga shows Kakashi impaled in the head by kunais and shurikens!
Manga shows illusion Sasuke with only one arm!

CH 7: Kakashi's Conclusion (ep 5)
Volume 1 ends with Kakashi saying they should quit as ninjas.
